Photography | 2017

What a year! 2017 was a whirlwind of emotions high and low but it brought a lot opportunities for me to pick up my camera and photograph some beautiful people. Looking back at the last 2 years I've done these posts it blows my mind how far I have come in only 2 years. I feel really proud but a little shocked that it's been such a small amount of time. I will link both those posts here  2016 2015 and at the end  so you can take a look for yourself.

This year I really pushed myself to not only photograph new people but to experiment with new styles, editing and new concepts. If it didn't work out its fine because I learnt from it.

January

The year started off back up north in Tynemouth with the beautiful Ellie Harkins, we went on a walk down the sea front and found the most beautiful (expensive) street and decided to do a "blogger" style shoot for her blog - link - I loved these photos and I still do.

February

In Feb the lovely Ellie came to visit me in Leeds, she drove her little fiat Berty down and we spent the day together going to fancy shops, eating lunch and of course shooting. We had a lot of laughs that day and both our confidence grew and we shot in the busy hustle and bustle of Leeds city centre, battling through the sea of stares and came out with some great shots.

Ellie then drove me back to Newcastle where I spent a couple of days with my family and of course did a couple of shoots. I went into town to meet Laura and we did one of my favourite photo shoot's of the year. We just walked down some side streets and have the best day, plus the photos turned out amazing!

Just before my journey back to Leeds I had to sneak in a photo shoot with Ellie! Would be rude not to now wouldn't it! We drove down to Cullercoats beach and ventured near but not in the caves; we arent stupid I don't want to die thank you.

 April

Nothing really happened in March but in April I finally convinced Kendra to step in front of the camera. We had both just secured our placement in Harrogate with Ont' Sofa and I was suppose to be doing photography so I wanted to test around the arena to see any locations I could shoot in. This isn't my favourite shoot but it opened doors for shooting with Kendra later in the year and I am SO beyond thankful for that.

In April Kendra and I also took a trip to Kirkstall "ruins" I don't actually know what they're called but they are pretty and we shot there! I loved this shoot because it was so different and we really worked with the location and tried new stuff.

May

I turned 20 in May, but more importantly it was placement semester which meant I spent every day with Kendra and it was amazing, but I also got to force her to stand in front of my camera and look pretty, just like the month before. I love shooting with Kendra because she is so beautiful but we also have so much fun and try new things (spoilers lol)

Granted not everything worked out.

June

Summer was upon us which meant we had loads of free time to do shoots and make movies and do all that fun creative stuff - until I got a job. I suddenly ran out of free time but started making money and met new people to shoot with and hang out with. In July I did my favourite shoot with Kendra, we had grown together and she was feeling more confident in front of the camera. Soo I stuck her in a bush with a cap and some glasses and it went so well.

July

July was great I met Court at work and forced her to sit in a trolly to shoot with me. @ Court I miss you come back from London!

In July my beautiful best friend Amy flew over from Ireland, and of course I couldn't let her leave without forcing her to model for me. We walked approximately 5 seconds down my street to a back alley and found our location. I love this shoot because Amy is also a photographer so we bounced ideas off each other and just had fun with it. Amy if you're reading this I miss you.

Finally, the end of July brought a very experimental shoot with Kendra, I saw on instagram that people were using CD's to reflect rainbows onto their models and I knew I had to try it. I have to admit this isn't one of my favourite shoots of the year just because I found it so difficult to achieve what I wanted but I would 100% give it ago again, plus Kendra looks beautiful.

 August

August brought a wonderful shoot with my dear friend Hannah, I wanted to try some fashion photography working with new poses and outfits. I also shot through a glass window and I am in love with how this effect worked I want to do more of this in 2018.

Also this month my wonderful friend Elysia travelled down to Leeds to do a shoot, I was so honoured when she asked me to shoot with her and she said she was willing to travel to me, it really made my heart happy. I loved this shoot so much we shot around Leeds and on a balcony of a bar.

September

September lead to more photo shoot's with Hannah including Chalk and flower baths. I love these shoots so much they were both so fun to do and turned out so well! The flower bath shoot is hands down my favourite shoot of the year I took inspiration from someone on instagram (cant remember now sorry wish I could credit) I would love to shoot with Hannah more in 2018 *wink* *wink*

Finally, before the month ended and Uni started I headed back to Newcastle for a weekend at home and naturally I saw Ellie and we had a photo shoot, I didn't expect to be doing a shoot as I wasn't home for very long so I didn't take my Canon DSLR home so instead I used Ellie's blogging camera (Olympus Pen)
This shoot taught me that I don't need an expensive camera to create the photos I want, I have developed my skills to a level where a simple blogging camera can create photos I am really happy with.

November
In November I did head shots for my beautiful dear friend Xanthe, she is an incredible journalist and is going to make all her dreams come true and I was lucky enough to use my passion to help her with hers. These are my first "professional" head shots and I wasn't entirely sure what I was going to do but I am really happy with these.

December

December meant I went home for Christmas to see my beautiful family and my amazing friends back home, I love christmas so much I miss it already! When I was at home I once again did a photo shoot with Ellie and I adore this shoot. We went back to the place we started the year and it really shows how much we have both improved, me as a photographer and El as a model.

I truly loved 2017, it was really hard a times not just for me but for those I love which breaks my heart but we all got through it together. I did so many shoots this year I didn't even realise until writing this post. I want to double the amount I do in 2018! Happy New Year huns, make this year your bitch!
