Amber | Photography

One of my goals for 2018 was to begin working with models, this is a massive thing for me as it's been something I've really wanted to do but its so scary!

I met Amber through a Facebook modelling and photographer page. It was so fun and interesting to work with a model. It was amazing to be able to work with someone who has modelling experience.
We decided to head back to high level bridge where I shot with Laura a few weeks prior. It was super rainy so this location was perfect as the bridge was covered. What I find really interesting about these photos is how dark and gloomy the shadows are. It was fun to mess about with the editing as I haven't got a specific "style" yet which allows me to mess about and experiment with my images.

I loved this shoot, it was so amazing to work with a model and it was super exciting for me to be able to tick off one of my 2018 goals.

Torie | Photography

Introducing to you the wonderful Torie Gregory, no not Tori Vega from Victorious but I would have also loved that, this Torie just like Jonny (previous post) reached out to lend me their face in my time of desperation so for that Torie, I thank you.

I really enjoyed this shoot as I was able to bring along Chelsea Carr who if you're a long time reader will remember Amy Carr (Life through a lens) well Chelsea is her sister whom has just started her degree in Photography. It was super cool to be able to bring someone along and "teach them what I know" I say that barely knowing anything. Chelsea brought along her camera and got some amazing shots.

We once again went around the city centre looking for locations that both Chelsea and I wanted to shoot at to ensure we just didn't come out with carbon copies of each other.

I am happy with these photos but I hope to improve from them, with better use of posing and creativity. I feel I focused too much on Chelsea getting good shots that I almost forgot I was shooting as well.

Thank you so much to Torie it was a pleasure.
Look forward to working with you more Chelsea and I miss your sister.

Jonny | Photography

One day after a long stressful time alone after the end of university I reached out for help and advice from literally anyone in regards to my photography career/dreams via instagram story. The lovely Jonny Smith who is an old and dear friend reached out to me offering himself as a model and instantly I jumped at the opportunity as my portfolio is SERIOUSLY lacking males.

We met one afternoon in Newcastle city centre (where I have been shooting a lot recently and loving  it! There are so many unique and cool places to find) we strolled around shooting for a while then it started to rain - typical, we love shooting outdoors.

Jonny's car was parked in St James Park (football stadium) so we decided to head there away from the rain and see what the stadium had to offer and oh boy it did not disappoint!

The use of the long corridor and ceiling spot lights allowed for some super cool affects but also allowed me to practice my framing, placing Jonny in the middle of the road allowed for the leading lines to follow you to the subject.

I loved this shoot in terms of how much I learnt, I am not used to shooting in low light as my little Canon 550D just can't handle it. But surprisingly, minus the grain the photos turned out great!

Many thanks to Mr Jonny Smith!

Laura | Photography

Everyone say welcome back to Laura Wallace, a near and dear friend of mine. I met with her for the first time since I got back from Leeds. We decided to go for a little lunch and then do a photo shoot.

We went around the city centre and decided to head to the high level bridge as I had seen a few images from other local photographers shooting there. Whilst we were there we saw a wedding photo shoot going on at the bridge which was strange but also interesting to see the uses for this location.

I loved it so much there it worked so well the leading lines from the bridge created a really cool affect and I really enjoy the shadows that were created. One the way to the next location we found a blue garage door that perfectly matched Laura's

After that we headed to Civic Centre/Haymarket to take some images there which is a location I discovered on the shoot with Torie and Chelsea.

I love all the photos I did with Laura I think they're so new and interesting and I enjoyed the shoot and seeing Laura.

I have included a lot of images in today's post as there is loads I like and I want to start including more.

Beamish | Summer Days Out

As an avid history fan for my 21st birthday my Dad took me to Beamish Museum in Country Durham for the day and I absolutely loved it. I hadn't been since I was younger as its about half an hour to 45 minute drive away from me and well... I don't drive.

Beamish is an open air museum which recreates life in the North East of England from the 1820's, 1900s and 1940's with real recreations from houses, farms, schools and dentists. One of my favourite parts about Beamish is its so big and accurate that you really feel like you're walking around a 1920's house. My Dad and I went at the beginning of the month way before the summer holidays started so it was relatively quiet but it can get super busy hence why we didn't go on my birthday during the May bank holiday. Our ticket was around £19 each for an adult ticket as unfortunately and sadly I am no longer a student I am a graduate but with that you get unlimited access for a year - I've already said I want to go around Christmas.

As you walk around the open air museum you are transported into a time long ago. I am always keen to learn and my dad seems to just store information in his brain. Any question I had he knew the answer to or we worked it out together and that's all the fun of it. I learnt about maids, living conditions, transport and loads more!

One of my favourite parts about the museum is it really goes to extreme lengths to make it an immersive experience. You can jump on the buses or the tram or even the steam train and it all feels like you're back in time.

As soon as we got there we walked along towards the colliery as I knew if I didn't go down the mine straight away I knew I wouldn't want to later. Such a cool part of the day was going down the mine, you go in a small group with a guide and spend about 10-15 minutes down there learning about working conditions for miners.

After that we went to the pit head wheel where we were shown a demonstration of the machinery that was used to power the lift the miners would use to enter deep into the mine. Followed by walking around the old mining village that was next door. This village is one of my favourite parts of the museum as you get to walk around the houses looking at all the interior and the weird choices they made back in the day. But also the school is here and the staff in their are always wonderful and its always weird to see that kids used to write on slate with chalk, none of this macbook nonsense.

We then headed to one of the best part of the day - the farm. It's a small 1940's themed farm I do believe and I love it. There was chickens running around everywhere and cows. Molly loves cows. Unfortunately there was no sheep as far as I was aware but we did get to look inside the farm houses.

Once we were finished looking around the farm we jumped on the bus and headed to the steam train - you jump on the train and it travels a couple of hundreds yards my father says "the journey is short but enjoyable" you really get to experience the bumpy ride of a steam train. This is just one of the things that makes Beamish so enjoyable for me it's so interactive.

Just before lunch we headed to what I like to call the "fancy house" this was up near the waggonways it had the most beautiful garden complete with gardeners who work year round to keep it pristine despite the level of tourism.

Finally it was time for lunch. Dad had prepared an absolutely unreal picnic it was so good I miss it. We sat in the field opposite the town centre. It was glorious.

We finished our day in the sun walking around the city centre recreation I love this part its where all the shops are - we watched a guy make hard boiled sweets, looked at cars, a printers, we went into a really fancy bank and even went into an old school photography shop which I loved! The size of their camera was actually madness I would not have wanted to take that on location with me. But the place that scared me the most was an old hall that was basically the illuminatis meeting place.

I had the nicest day with my dad and I can't wait to go back as over the summer they have some cool events on! Thank you Beamish for a wonderful day out celebrating my birthday.
